Overview
Folsom Fitness was in need of a WordPress Developer to safely and methodically update the site’s theme, which required the creation and implementation of new elements and templates.
Because the site had been haphazardly updated to PHP 7, many errors and conflicts needed to be resolved, and a careful approach to adjusting any settings was necessary to avoid any further corruption of the site.
Approach
A careful strategy was planned out and reviewed with the client before any changes to the site were made. Milestones were established and met while maintaining constant contact with the client to ensure satisfaction and security.
A “staging” environment was created to ensure that updates and changes didn’t immediately affect the live site where users could see them.
Action
After creating the staging server, plugins on this environment were updated one by one. “Pirate Forms” which was throwing a front-end error was replaced for “WPForms”, and a site-wide scrub for outdated content commenced.
After the site’s content was updated, it was time to carefully begin the theme update. A backup of the site’s theme and database was created and safely stored on dropbox. The client wanted to update from Zerif lite to Neve, which meant the new site would use the front-end builder, “Elementor”. The old theme’s pages were subsequently converted to Elementor templates, which were then adjusted to be responsive and match the original design as closely as possible.
Final Product
After the staging site was cleaned up, a link was provided to the client to review. The client approved all of the changes and the project was complete!
