ASU Prep Digital is an accredited online high school where students can take a single online course or enroll in a full-time, diploma-granting program. Because ASU Prep Digital is part of Arizona State University, students can enjoy an accelerated path toward college admission and the chance to earn both high school and university credit.
ASU Prep Digital is an online high school offering courses to prepare students for college.
The company’s website was in need of a redesign in order to drive more organic traffic to their program, and spark an interest within youths eligible to enroll in ASU Prep Digital.
The client was in need of a website design refresh in order to increase student applications and enrollment. The old design lacked an intuitive experience, stretching advisors’ bandwidth thin, as users would often bombard them with questions the site left unanswered.
The most common question advisors stated they received was: “What does a day in the life of a student at ASU Prep Digital look like?”. The UI/UX Designer and I sought to answer this question with the new design by developing solutions such as the Student Stories page, where users can view what a typical day at ASU Prep Digital looks and feels like.
A custom WordPress Theme was developed using Foundation as a boilerplate CSS framework. A Docker WordPress environment was created to locally develop the site, and a Bitbucket Repo was hooked up for version controlling and collaboration purposes. NPM and Gulp were used during development for SASS compiling and project packaging. In total 10 different custom post types and thousands of Advanced Custom Fields were created in order to provide a robust system for the client to log into the back end and be able to manage easily after site hand-off.
After three months of developing the site, the product was launched to much praise from the client and other business partners. Digital learning boomed during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the site’s launch drove massive amounts of traffic and business to ASU Prep Digital as students everywhere shifted to digital learning.
